Testing ‘Moon draws Sun/Earth draws Moon’

On the morning of Friday the 20th of March 2015, a total solar eclipse will darken the skies of northern Scotland.
To celebrate this celestial event, David Faithfull has created ‘Moon draws Sun/Earth draws Moon’ in collaboration with Dr Hermine Schnetler, Dr William Taylor and Will Cochrane from the UKATC.
Coinciding with the actual eclipse at 9.45am on the morning of the 20th of March, a kinetic model of the orbiting moon and earth sun will be projected onto the side of Castle Mill Works. The model comprises a 3D printed rendering of the moon coated with powdered moon rock or anorthocite. This white feldspar is responsible for the moon’s pale colouration against the black basalt of its craters. Rare on earth this mineral has been sourced from a remote location in Scotland.

Join us for the ECLIPSE event!
